The R.W. Kern Center: Project Achievements and Lessons Learned

April 6, 2018 @ 3:40 pm - 5:00 pm

Join Christopher Nielson of Bruner/Cott and Lisa Carey Moore of Integrated Eco Strategy for a riveting

session at the 16th Annual NYS Green Building Conference!

Abstract:

The R.W. Kern Center is the gateway to Hampshire College and demonstrates what is possible
for today’s buildings: making its own energy, harvesting its own water and treating its own
waste. With super-insulated construction, simple yet efficient building systems, and solar
electricity getting ever-closer to grid parity, it shows how net zero energy has become a realistic
project goal for new construction even in cold climates. The Living Building Challenge, however,
takes this one step further, requiring Net Zero Water systems and eliminating the use of
materials with adverse health and environmental impacts. Join us to learn more about the
design of Hampshire College’s most recent building, and walk away with strategies that can be
employed in your next project!
