Manager of Project Accounting & Performance

The Manager of Project Accounting & Performance position combines day-to-day project accounting and managing and performing all duties related to the accounting function with analytics, process strategy, and financial management making them a key member of a creative, collaborative, and high-performance workplace culture. They will work in close collaboration with the Director of Operations to provide high-level business support to the Firm Partners. This role is an exciting combination of hands-on and management work in a dynamic environment and requires both regular tasks and long-term visioning. Due to the fast-paced, deadline-based environment of Architecture, this position may require more than 40 hours per week. This position requires in-office work at least 2-3 days per week to collaborate with Partners and staff.

Reports to: Dana Kelly, Partner + Principal

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Project Accounting – 65%
    • Work with Director of Operations to ensure contracts reflect appropriate budgets
    • Generate and send monthly client invoices in collaboration with Project Managers and Director of Operations
    • Oversee approval process of consultant invoices for projects
    • Track project fees throughout project lifecycle
    • Generate and distribute monthly project budget reports to Project Managers
    • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to supply appropriate budgets for project staffing
    • Monitor Accounts Receivable and follow up directly with clients when appropriate, maintain files on AR and update records as required
  • General Accounting – 35%
    • Perform accounting and financial functions of the firm, supervise accounting function of administrative staff
    • Generate monthly and annual reporting of financial performance:
      • Overall firm performance reporting
      • Project performance reporting
    • Manage Accounts Payable and process payments, including printing checks and obtaining appropriate signatures, initiating wire/ACH requests, sending all payment verification data to the bank, and posting transactions in accounting software
    • Manage budgets created by Marketing, IT, and other select departments
    • Process payroll and expense reports bi-weekly
    • Manage R&D Tax Credit process
    • Assist in preparation of financials to submit to CPA for annual tax return
    • File and maintain financial documentation and update accounting database on a regular basis
    • Periodically review vendors to ensure accurate classification for IRS Form 1099 reporting purposes
    • Ensure accounting procedures operate effectively and recommend changes to improve department efficiency, update firm leadership on any discrepancies found during invoicing or accounting duties


Candidates should clearly demonstrate:

  • 7-10 years’ work experience in an accounting or project budget management position
  • A/E/C industry experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher required; relevant degree strongly preferred
  • High level of individual accountability
  • Knowledge of fiscal planning, budgeting, and reporting
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Effective collaboration skills and willingness to work for team success
  • Ability to handle the demands of a fast-paced, multi-tasking position
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in managing different business functions
  • Sensitivity and ability to manage confidential matters is required

Salary and Benefits:

Salary Range: $75,000 – $100,000, commensurate with experience.

Architect/Designer

Bruner/Cott Architects is seeking new architectural design staff to join our mid-sized practice in Boston, MA. Our collaborative design practice strives to create thoughtful client-oriented design solutions, transform place, and enhance the human experience while respecting the natural environment. We are driven by design excellence and an active commitment to a sustainable future. We are consistently recognized as an AIA New England Emerging Professional Friendly Firm (2018-2021).

This position will start out remotely, but some on-site and collaborative work may be required.

Candidates should clearly demonstrate: 

  • 4-7 years of experience
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, SketchUp, and other 3D modeling programs
  • a strong sense of design and building technology expertise
  • commitment to and expertise with a high level of sustainable design thinking
  • ability to communicate visually and verbally
  • a professional degree in Architecture; demonstrated progress on path toward licensure recommended
