MIT Richard J. Resch Boathouse

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Bruner/Cott partnered with boathouse experts Peterson Architects to revive the circa-1964 Richard J. Resch Boathouse, formerly known as the Harold W. Pierce Boathouse, at MIT. The project sought to revitalize the existing building and provide MIT Crew with a state-of-the-art facility that can keep up with the program’s accelerated growth.

Situated on the Charles River along Memorial Drive, the 22,000-gsf building was first designed for one all-male varsity crew team. Today it houses four Division I varsity squads for both men and women, as well as various MIT clubs, alumni groups, community groups, and the public at large.

Renovations include redesigned locker rooms, a new visitor’s changing room, expanded coaches’ offices and meeting spaces, larger, modern workout and training space, an increase in boat storage, and the extension of a wrap-around deck.
