.... Simeon Bruner, RA
Principal
Simeon Bruner has over thirty-five years experience in architecture and construction. He is known for his creative design and for his expertise in the adaptive reuse of historic buildings. A Founding Principal of Bruner/Cott, Mr. Bruner is responsible for client interface throughout the entire design and construction process. His special areas of concentration are schematic design and design development, as well as bidding and negotiation and construction administration. In addition to his work at Bruner/Cott, he is the founder of the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence, a nationally recognized award for urban architecture. Mr. Bruner was Principal-in-Charge of significant projects such as MASS MoCA and Landmark Center, among others. He is currently the Principal-in-Charge of 45 Province Street, a 31-story condominium in downtown Boston, the Wadsworth Atheneum expansion in Hartford, CT, and the new Safra Center for the Arts at Brandeis University. Mr. Bruner ran his own construction firm for several years, and is the President of affiliated building managment and development entities. Mr. Bruner holds a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University and A.B. in Biology from Brandeis University.


Leland Cott, FAIA, LEED
Principal
As co-founding principal of Bruner/Cott & Associates, Leland Cott has completed award-winning projects including buildings for educational, multi-occupant residential, and commercial use. He is responsible for primary client contact, design and implementation of architecture, interior architecture and urban design projects and oversight of the ongoing work. Mr. Cott is knowledgeable in building preservation and has extensive background in adaptation and renovation of existing buildings to new uses. He is an Adjunct Professor in Urban Design at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, where he teaches advanced design studios and housing seminars and sits on faculty committees, including the Joint Center for Housing Studies. He is a former president of the Boston Society of Architects and a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects. Mr. Cott served as Principal in Charge for 20-21 Custom House Street, and his recent projects include the LEED Platinum certified Harvard Blackstone renovation, and the adaptive reuse of a historic gymnasium at Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Mr. Cott earned a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Pratt Institute.


Lynne Brooks, AIA, LEED
Principal
Lynne Brooks has been with Bruner/Cott for over 20 years. She has considerable expertise in the management of complex projects. She is primarily responsible for use-needs analyses, programming, architectural and interior design concepts, project team management, consultant coordination and work flow scheduling. Ms. Brooks is currently a Principal on the new MIT Sloan School expansion, and several Dartmouth North Campus projects. She has also worked on numerous projects for Dean College; the Harvard Dance Center; the renovation of the Radcliffe Gymnasium; and the Marriott Residence Inn at Cambridge Center. Ms. Brooks earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and her graduate degree from the Boston Architectural Center.


Henry Moss, AIA, LEED
Principal
Henry Moss specializes in planning and designing large-scale adaptive reuse and historic restoration projects. His award-winning projects include the preservation of Bulfinch’s University Hall at Harvard University and H.H. Richardson’s Hayden Building. Mr. Moss was the Principal in Charge for the Watertown Arsenal and 199 State Street, and he was a key member of the design team for MASS MoCA. Prior to joining Bruner/Cott, he practiced in England for 18 years, where he specialized in historic preservation and public housing renovation. He then worked for Historic Boston on a variety of community-based restoration projects. Since 1986, he has led technical workshops for architects and contractors on historic building topics for the Boston Society of Architects. More recently, he became a regional spokesperson for preservation issues associated with post-World War II buildings and landscapes. Mr. Moss is a graduate of Harvard University with Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) and Master of Architecture degrees.


Daniel Raih, AIA, LEED
Principal
Mr. Raih has been a senior member of Bruner/Cott for nearly thirty years. He has a wide range of experience in institutional, commercial, and residential projects, from the inception of design through the completion of construction. He has been responsible for many of the firm’s college dining and student center projects, including Bartlett Hall at the University of Chicago (recipient of a national AIA/SCUP Honor Award). Mr. Raih is the Principal-in-Charge of Vanderbilt University’s new Freshman Commons, a $23,000,000, 110,000 sf dining and student center on the historic Peabody College campus. He was also the Principal-in-Charge of Channel Center, the award-winning multi-use project recently completed in Boston’s Fort Point district.


Norris Strawbridge, FAIA
Principal
Norris Strawbridge provides his expertise in facility programs, master plans and architectural designs for student unions, campus commons, residence halls, recreation centers and performing arts centers. Crafting individual solutions to the culture, climate and rituals of each campus, he ensures that the sense of community unique to each institution is preserved, celebrated and enhanced. Mr. Strawbridge has worked with colleges, universities and independent schools both within the United States and internationally. Each project benefits from the expertise he acquired during thirty years of practice, including twenty as a principal with Sasaki Associates. Mr. Strawbridge received his BA in History of Architecture and Fine Art from Columbia University and his Master of Architecture from MIT.


Lawrence Cheng, AIA, LEED
Senior Associate
Mr. Cheng joined Bruner/Cott in 1999, after managing his own firm for 6 years. He has considerable experience in the design of multi-family housing and mixed use facilities. His contributions include project design, detailing, and overall supervision of project team activities. He was the Associate-in-Charge of Channel Center, an ongoing, $400-million major mixed-use project in Boston’s Seaport District. He is now working with complex multi-family housing projects such as the Penmark Condominiums at Harrison Commons in Boston—60 luxury units located in the historic Boston College High School—and a variety of planning and design projects in South Boston. Mr. Cheng is a former Loeb Fellow in Advanced Environmental Studies at the Harvard Design School, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.


Robert Simmons, AIA, LEED
Senior Associate
Bob Simmons joined Bruner/Cott in 1987 and, with his strong background in design, has significantly contributed to many of Bruner/Cott’s best known projects including the MIT
Faculty Club, the rehabilitation of Memorial Hall at Harvard University, the Sarratt Student Center at Vanderbilt University, and the reuse of the former Sears Roebuck warehouse in Boston, now known as Landmark Center. He is currently in charge of project design and production, the supervision of team activities, and the coordination of consulting engineers for his projects. He specializes in dining and student life projects, sustainable design, and historic preservation/adaptive reuse. Mr. Simmons was the Associate-in-Charge for the Roberts Dining Commons at Colby College and Bartlett Hall at the University of Chicago, a dining and student life facility housed in a historic former gymnasium. Mr. Simmons received his Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie-Mellon University.


Jason Forney, AIA, LEED
Associate
Mr Forney’s duties include design, production management, and construction administration. He is currently Associate-in-Charge of the design and construction of the LEED Silver-registered McLaughlin Cluster Residence Halls at Dartmouth College and the reuse of the historic McKim gymnasium at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. He has also worked on Bruner/Cott’s designs for the second phase of MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts. Before joining Bruner/Cott in 2003, Jason worked on many campus design and planning projects. Jason is a graduate of North Carolina State University with Bachelors Degrees in Architecture and Environmental Design in Architecture.



Robert Peirce, AIA, LEED
Associate
Mr. Peirce is a Project Manager/Project Architect with the firm. He has experience leading teams through the completion of projects valued from 10 to 40 million dollars, several of which were for institutions and state agencies. Mr. Pierce has proven presentation skills for both large and small groups, including private and public committees. He has an established ability to develop collaborative relationships with clients, construction managers and consultants. He has extensive experience with filed sub-bid projects.He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Temple University.




Laurie Soave, AIA, LEED
Associate
Ms. Soave develops programming and design concepts, manages project teams, and coordinates consultants’ work. She is particularly skilled in projects emphasizing historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and sustainable design. She is currently the Associate-in-Charge of the design and construction of the Hilltop and Wells Commons Dining Halls at the University of Maine, Orono campus; and recently supervised the construction of the renovation of Blackstone Station at Harvard, a LEED-registered historic rehabilitation, as well as the new Harvard Dance Center. Since joining Bruner/Cott, Ms. Soave has worked on Channel Center (luxury housing in Boston) and a new, sustainable design for a building combining workshops, offices, and caretaker’s living space for the historic Mount Auburn Cemetery. She received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Boston Architectural Center.



Jason Springer, AIA
Associate
Mr. Springer is currently in charge of project team management and project construction for the Kemeny Hall/Haldeman Centers at Dartmouth College. This project is the initial academic building in a new Dartmouth Campus master plan. The building is expected to attain LEED-Silver certification through exceptional energy performance, sensitive site treatment, and its high-performance architectural envelope. Since joining Bruner/Cott in 2002, Mr. Springer has worked on the design of the Promenade at the Foundry in Providence, Rhode Island, a 220-unit luxury urban apartment development within an historic industrial building complex. He has also worked on Harrison Commons, South End, Boston, a luxury condominium project built in the historic Boston College High School building. His career experience includes realized national and international urban design/public space projects, in addition to experience with numerous building types, programs, and budgets. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Idaho, Moscow.


Peter Ziegler, AIA
Associate
Peter joined our firm in 2004 with a strong background in the application of technology to architectural practice. He develops programming and design concepts, manages design and production teams, and coordinates consultant information. He is particularly adept at combining his analytical skills with programmatic and 3-D design solutions. Peter has worked on the Dean College master plan; the conversion of the iconic Boott Mill in Lowell, MA to a mixed-use residential development; the Wadsworth Athenaeum Art Museum in Hartford, CT; and the new 31-story luxury residential tower at 45 Province Street in Boston. Currently Peter is the associate-in-charge of design for three buildings, including a new Library and Learning Commons at Dean College in Franklin, MA. Peter received his Bachelor of Science, Art and Design and Master of Architecture from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.
