Construction cost: $1 Million
Area: 2,000 sf
Completed: 1975

Our first environmentally-conscious new building was this private home designed in 1975. This award-winning design evokes a unique blend of understated elegance, maximum functionality, and luxurious open space. The first part of the house, an L-shaped component, shields the house from street view, concealing its dramatic living space. The second component, a 900 sf living room with a translucent roof, 22-foot ceiling, and glass outer walls, opens up the house to a secluded pond at the south. The translucent acrylic living room roof and black natural slate floor were designed to catch the sun, and generate and store heat in the home.
