Construction cost: $750,000
Area: 4,250 sf
Completed: 1992
In 1992 Bruner/Cott completed a new student dining servery in the Walker Memorial at MIT. Designed to reflect the historic nature of this campus landmark, the new servery features tile, terrazzo, stainless steel, brass and mahogany finishes with traditional lighting and graphics. The new servery ‘traditions’ emphasizes a return to a traditional menu of full course home-style meals with all the trimmings.
The design by Bruner/Cott is intended to reinforce the goals of MIT Dining Services to celebrate the tradition and elegance of old-style cafeteria dining, before the impact of fast food on campus dining services. In addition to the servery itself, the project includes a new kitchen area, prep spaces and other general renovation work to the building.
