Construction cost: $1 Million
Area: 8,000 sf
Completed: 1991

The MIT Faculty Club in Cambridge, Massachusetts has been transformed from a dark and unwelcoming space into 9,000 SF of completely renovated dining, function, reception and kitchen space.

Drawing on the art deco heritage of the original 1938 structure, Bruner/Cott sought to bring back a more formal club image to the space by carefully using wood columns and doors, marble floors, stepped ceilings and other detailing to create a rich weave of materials, without a sombre tone.

The custom millwork included use of mahogany, cherry and birdseye maple, with a Xylem finishing. Lighting fixtures, furniture and architectural details have all been orchestrated as a contemporary interpretation of the art deco origins of the building and serve to strengthen the club’s character.
