Bruner/Cott, together with campus master planner Carlone & Associates, transformed 26,000 square feet of this 1928 Art Deco former Sears store into classrooms and administrative space. The building had been converted into a multi-use complex in 1985, and the College chose to retain many of its stores, restaurants, health club and offices.
New uses include music practice rooms, dance studios, and multipurpose classrooms that double as art studios. Data-link communications and built-in audiovisual projection equipment serve a new computer learning center. Bruner/Cott also designed offices for the Finance and Registrar departments, as well as a student services reception area.
Exterior restoration to the historic structure involved evaluating the external building envelope, prioritizing repairs, and carrying out a three-phase, three-year program of repairs to brick, limestone, cast stone, EIFS and windows. Bruner/Cott provided technical support to Carlone & Associates for alterations in all exterior paint systems, color selection, and development of all exterior metal work finishes.
