A spatially elaborate, but derelict attic space became a new residence conceived and completed as a work of environmental art. The space is exemplary of architect, artist and building owner working together as a design team to create a work of art to live in.

Bruner/Cott collaborated with David Ireland to create a heightened sculptural and architectural environment. Phillips Academy created a program of new uses for Abbot Hall and the Esther Gallery by combining administrative offices, student activities, and a major expansion of the Addison Gallery of American Art. The loft juxtaposes new materials, such as bamboo and steel flooring, handrails made of steel reinforcing bars, and tinted plaster against the original exposed timber trusses and historic rotating observatory dome, merging old and new.
